The Vignale is the range-topping iteration of the popular Ford Kuga. If you like your SUV to come extensively equipped and provide luxurious levels of comfort, the Kuga Vignale is an excellent, upmarket family-car choice.
The vehicle is enhanced with generous levels of chrome, found on the vehicle’s expansive radiator grille and across the exterior. The car rides on lightweight and stylish 17-inch alloy wheels too. The Kuga Vignale is not just about looks, however. For instance, the tailgate can be opened simply by waggling a foot under the rear bumper – very useful if you have both hands full with shopping. Adaptive lighting is a standard inclusion too, allowing illumination around bends and over peaks in the road.
A spacious five-person cabin is fitted with gently yielding quilted leather seats that provide supreme comfort for all concerned. The driver can establish his or her ideal position thanks to a ten-way-adjustable position and a leather-clad tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. Power-operated front and rear windows and automatic dual-zone climate control feature too, so that achieving the perfect cabin temperature is an absolute cinch. The car’s 406-litre boot space should be sufficient for most needs. However, whenever more cargo capacity is required, 60/40 split-folding rear seats can be flipped to deliver a 1,603-litre load space.
Entry-level Kuga Vignale variants are fitted with a 1.5-litre 118bhp diesel engine, which is the most fuel-efficient option available. This returns as much as 64.2mpg and produces CO2 emissions as low as 115g/km. Optimal performance levels are delivered by models that are powered by a 2.0-litre 178bhp diesel unit. This delivers 400Nm of torque and 0-60mph in less than ten seconds, while managing up to 54.3mpg.
Technology and safety
Active Noise Cancellation is included, which makes the cabin as quiet as possible, allowing travellers to enjoy their favourite audio content even more. Speaking of which, a nine-speaker Sony Sound system is installed, and includes DAB digital radio. Bluetooth connectivity features too, facilitating music streaming and hands-free telephony.
An eight-inch touchscreen adorns the car’s leather-upholstered dashboard. This provides access to a SYNC 3 infotainment system, which provides advanced voice recognition technology. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported too, allowing the mirroring of smartphones via the car’s screen.
The Kuga has been awarded a full five-star crash-test rating by Euro NCAP. It comes with an array of driver aids, including Electronic Stability Programme, Anti-lock Braking System and Active City Stop. The latter substantially minimises the risk of low-speed collisions – and passive safety features such multiple airbags and ISOFIX child-seat fixtures help to protect occupants of all ages.
